The intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology is considered one of the most revolutionary technological advancements of this century. The presented survey provides a thorough overview of AI approaches for IoT systems,
broad range of applications in smart cities, health-care, industrial IoT, agriculture and environment. In addition, this work discusses crucial challenges such as computational limitations, data privacy, security threats, interoperability and explainable AI. We conclude by summarizing current state-of-the-art research, giving practical use-cases and defining future research opportunities for AI-IoT systems.
